Parallel Squared Technology Institute (PTI) is a non-profit research institute aiming to catalyze a leap in protein analysis technology and use it to explore new biological frontiers. PTI supports open research and educational opportunities supporting rapid career development for scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.Why? Protein dysfunctions directly cause many diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Yet, proteins remain understudied because of technological hurdles.How? To resolve these limitations, PTI will develop mass tags enabling a new framework for multiplexed protein analysis by mass spectrometry towards achieving 100-fold increase in throughput. Scientists at and collaborating with the institute will use these gains to directly investigate disease mechanisms and resolve problems that have proven intractable for decades. Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel compounds that can be functionalized with NHS-ester chemistry to conjugate to biomolecules
• Design synthesis steps to allow precise positioning of isotopic substitutes for carbon, nitrogen and/or hydrogen
• Develop protocols and setup equipment for compound purification
• Perform conjugation of biomolecules with compounds
• Analyze and present on compound purity and conjugation rate to team
• Lead all chemistry-related projects across organization
• Create or maintain relationships with external companies and stakeholders related to compound synthesis or distribution
• Collaborate with leadership and team members to achieve platform goals
• Manage and train others on research methodology
• Collaborate with hardware and software engineers
• Define new directions for technology development in collaboration with leadership
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others
  
  

Qualifications

• 5-10 Years post-PhD experience in compound synthesis
• Passion for breaking barriers in chemistry
• PhD in biochemistry or chemistry
• Demonstrated excellence in team leadership
• Over 4 years of synthesis experience involving isotopes.
• Understanding of purification techniques
• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Highly organized with attention to detail
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Effective communicator to experts outside of the chemistry field
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to adapt to changing projects and goals
