This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced, growing Focused Research Organization (FRO) startup (currently in stealth). We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to conduct NGS-based experimental research and contribute to novel assay development in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will develop high-throughput workflows and generate datasets from adaptive immune cells, including bulk RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, long-read sequencing, BCR sequencing, and barcoded antigen labeling. This individual will work closely with other top-tier experimental and computational scientists to create groundbreaking new insights into adaptive immunity.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in planning and executing NGS-based sequencing experiments to profile adaptive immune responses in coordination with interdisciplinary team of computational, immunology, and molecular biology scientists
  • Design and prepare DNA and RNA libraries from immune cells
  • Performing in-house QC checks and maintain high standards for sequencing quality, in line with industry best practices
  • Help establish and optimize sequencing workflow SOPs for NGS assays
  • Aid in maintaining sequencer uptime, and manage reagent inventory
  • Contribute to the development of novel NGS and multiomics assays and research, inclusive of experimental design
  • Assist in procurement and maintenance of supplies, chemicals, and biological inventories.
  • Communicate study findings efficiently and present data at various internal and external meetings as projects progress
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others

Key Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in biomedical engineering, genetics, immunology or related field that relies on next-generation sequencing applications
  • High proficiency with nucleic acid preparation from eukaryotic sources, preferably adaptive immune cells
  • Experience with library design and preparation for next-generation sequencing
  • Familiarity with state-of-art methodology for bulk RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, and BCR profiling
  • Experience processing diverse single-cell raw data using Cell Ranger and alternative / open-source pipelines
  • Comfort running multiple projects simultaneously with different priorities and timelines
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills

Advanced Qualifications

  • Prior experience in adaptive immunity research. (strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with diverse next-generation sequencing technologies such as Pacific Biosciences, Oxford Nanopore, and/or Ion Torrent. (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with single-cell multiomics techniques (eg, CITE-seq, LIBRA-seq), long-reads, and / or proteomic antibody sequencing (Ab-seq). (strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with diverse microfluidics, microwell, and microfluidics-free platforms
  • Experience with liquid handling automation for sequencing library preparation
  • Proficiency in custom protocol development
  • Experience with novel assay development
  • Competence in R and/or Python with familiarity with scVerse tools, scVi tools, Scanpy or Seurat, as well as antigen-specific analysis using scRepertoire, Immcantation, or related tools.
  • Experience generating immunological insights from single cell sequencing data

We Offer

  • Competitive compensation $90,000 - $120,000 a year (salary based on years experience)
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous time off + paid holidays
  • A supportive environment to learn and develop new skills
  • An opportunity to participate in high-impact, fast-paced, cutting-edge, collaborative team science; contribute to curing disease; and work with leading experts from different fields

We aim to help fill a structural gap in today's R&D system. We enable fundamental research that requires unusual levels of scale and coordination yet is not rapidly monetizable by industry. We’re bringing together top talent from academia, industry, and startups to build a new model for innovative R&D. As an incubator within the Schmidt Futures Network, we identify high-impact scientific or technical research and development opportunities, ultimately defining and launching these projects as Focused Research Organizations.
