Role
We’re seeking a hands-on Lab Operations Assistant to keep our San Francisco lab running smoothly and help stand up lightweight systems that scale. You’ll own the day-to-day readiness of the lab—supplies, equipment coordination, safety records, and basic workflows—so our researchers can focus on science.
This is a part-time, in-person role based in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
Lab readiness & maintenance Keep benches and shared spaces organized; manage dishwashing/sterilization cycles and routine tidying; coordinate waste streams (chemical, bio, sharps) per policy.
Inventory & procurement Track consumables and reagents, place orders, receive and stock supplies; maintain up-to-date SDS/labels and a simple chemical/reagent inventory.
Equipment coordination Maintain asset lists; schedule preventive maintenance and repairs; arrange installations and vendor visits; track calibration (e.g., pipettes).
Systems & documentation Set up and maintain lightweight systems (checklists, SOP library, equipment schedule, inventory/ordering tracker; ELN/LIMS or Notion/Sheets).
Safety & compliance support Maintain training records, assist with safety audits/inspections, keep incident logs current; coordinate with building/shared-lab management.

General operational support Stage materials, label/sample-track, prep basic buffers/solutions under supervision, and assist with shipping/receiving of samples and parts.
Skills and Qualifications
1+ year in a wet-lab, core facility, or lab operations role
Solid grasp of basic lab safety and good laboratory practices; meticulous with labeling and documentation.
Organized, proactive, and comfortable creating and following checklists to drive reliability.
Fluency with productivity tools (Google Workspace, Slack; Notion/Sheets)
Able to lift and move boxes/equipment (max ~20 kg) and be on your feet during stocking/receiving.
