AI Node Manager (San Francisco)

Foresight Institute is launching a new physical “node” — a local hub where researchers, engineers, and technologists collaborate on AI-driven science progress. As Node Manager, you’ll run this space, build its community, and make it hum with activity.

This is part operations lead, part community builder, and part project catalyst. Your mission: keep the space thriving, connect brilliant minds, and ensure the node delivers on Foresight’s vision for defensive, decentralized AI and scientific progress.

Role details

Location: San Francisco, US

Salary range: Base salary typically ranges from $110,000–$145,000, depending on experience, plus benefits

Application deadline: The role will be filled as soon as possible. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Nominate a candidate and earn a $1,000 referral bonus upon hire.

Responsibilities

Operations & Cloud Infrastructure

  • Oversee daily hub operations: space, equipment, safety, and compliance.
  • Manage vendor contracts, building services, and lease agreements.
  • Design and implement systems that streamline how the node works.
  • Manage scalable GPU infrastructure and related technical projects with reliable compute

Community & Culture

  • Be the go-to person for fellows, grantees, and partners.
  • Create a welcoming, high-energy environment.
  • Actively connect people and projects to spark collaboration.
  • Onboard and integrate new members into the community.

Programs & Events

  • Plan and execute events, workshops, and programs with the team and CEO.
  • Host salons, workshops, and other gatherings that bring the space alive.
  • Keep programming on schedule, on budget, and impactful.

Partnerships & Coordination

  • Cultivate relationships with funders, partners, and local networks.
  • Share outcomes and updates from the hub with the broader Foresight team.
  • Coordinate with other Foresight nodes to exchange resources and ideas.

Who you are

  • Organized & Operationally Sharp: Experienced in managing physical spaces, leases, and legal matters.
  • Connector & Culture Builder: Skilled at forging relationships and fostering collaborative environments.
  • Entrepreneurial & Proactive: Comfortable launching new programs and driving growth.
  • Reliable & Discreet: A trusted steward for sensitive projects with a long-term mindset.
  • Systems-Oriented: Always looking for ways to make processes faster and smoother.
  • Bonus: Background in AI, science, or AI for science.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years in operations, community management, events, startups, or physical space management.
  • Proven track record managing complex projects or programs.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Adaptable in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Desirable, not required: technical background with hands-on DevOps experience, and knowledge of local/on-prem and cloud-based deployments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
