| Position Description | Overview: The Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School seeks an experienced postdoctoral fellow with a specialty in health economics to lead and collaborate on studies related to payment system and market design under the mentorship of Prof. Michael McWilliams. This position provides opportunities to collaborate with the Department’s interdisciplinary faculty —including economists, physicians, statisticians, and social scientists—on projects that bridge methods, policy, and practice. Position Description: This role will involve intensive analysis of claims data and related large administrative datasets to support policy-relevant research related to aspects of the Medicare program, including payment policy, risk adjustment, and competition. Experience working with Medicare claims data, a deep understanding of econometrics and statistics, and advanced programming skills are therefore desired. The role will also involve preparation of graphical displays of results and manuscripts for publication. |
| Basic Qualifications | • Ph.D. in areas such as economics, statistics, biostatistics, computer science or a related quantitative field |
| Additional Qualifications | • Exceptional programming and analytical skills (including R, Python, and SAS or Stata) • Demonstrated expertise in causal inference and high-dimensional risk adjustment/predictive modeling, experience with Medicare claims data • Clear scientific writing and communication, an ability to work both independently and in teams, and a track record of publications |
