| Position Description | The Department of South Asian Studies seeks applications for a preceptor in Urdu & Indo-Persian. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching Hindi, Urdu, and Indo-Persian at all levels, and across multiple genres and time periods. The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. |
| Basic Qualifications | The successful applicant should have experience in teaching Hindi, Urdu, and Indo-Persian in a university context, and at all levels. Native or near-native fluency and/or expertise in Hindi, Urdu, and Indo-Persian along with graduate-level training in Hindi, Urdu, and Indo Persian and related fields of study (such as South Asian area studies, literature, religion, or linguistics) is also required. |
| Additional Qualifications | Applicant should ideally have a record of conducting research in India and/or Pakistan, as well as knowledge of other South Asian languages. |

| Salary Range | $70,300 to $78,300 Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field. This position may be represented by the Harvard Academic Workers (HAW) – UAW for purposes of collective bargaining and matters affecting your compensation and working conditions. |
