| Position Description | Harvard Divinity School seeks an adjunct instructor/lecturer in Elementary Biblical Hebrew to teach an eight-week intensive course on elementary Biblical Hebrew from June 15, 2026 to August 6, 2026, as part of the Summer Language Program. This class will meet online (synchronously) only for the duration of the program. This is a term-limited summer appointment only (from June 1 to August 31, 2026) and will not be continued into the academic year. HDS is unable to sponsor work-visas for this short-term, temporary position. The teaching material covers the target language from the beginner’s level up to intermediate competency in reading and translation (equivalent to the first year of college instruction in Biblical Hebrew). No prerequisite is noted for students in order to take this class. Candidates for the teaching position should be competent in the target language and have proven experience in college/university online teaching. The appointment title will depend on the finalist’s qualifications. Ph.D., or other advanced terminal degree required. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a benefits-eligible position with a schedule of 9 hours of instruction and class meeting time per week, for the duration of the SLP program. This is a remote position and is based in Cambridge, MA. Additional details pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, California (exempt staff only), Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington). |
| Basic Qualifications | Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications: (1) completed advanced degree and (2) substantial experience in teaching Biblical Hebrew in reading and translation at all levels. Previous publications are desirable, but not required. |
