Science is an early stage company developing technologies for a range of serious unmet medical needs. We are unafraid to take difficult technical risks, secure in the knowledge that with a clear understanding of what we are doing and with support from powerful modern tools, more progress is possible than might be immediately obvious. Regardless of role or team, the two most important factors we look for in a candidate are evidence of exceptional ability and the addition of positive energy to the group. As a small, very early stage team in a largely unstructured environment, the ability to independently orient yourself to the problems that need to be solved and then follow through is essential.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems for our advanced medical devices. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software engineers, biomedical engineers and more, to ensure the successful integration of electrical components into our products. You will also be responsible for providing technical guidance, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the overall product strategy.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical systems and subsystems, including schematic design, component selection, and PCB layout.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define electrical requirements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.

  • Perform detailed circuit analysis, simulation, and validation to ensure the integrity and performance of electrical designs.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to guide design decisions and mitigate potential issues.

  • Create and maintain documentation, including specifications, design guidelines, and test protocols, ensuring compliance with quality management systems.

  • Collaborate with external suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure the timely and cost-effective production of electrical components.

  • Lead and participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and recommendations for improvement.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.

Key qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years industry experience in electrical engineering, preferably within the medical device space.

  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, PCB layout, EMC and EMI considerations.

  • Proficiency in using electrical design and simulation tools such as Altium, Cadence, or similar software.

  • Proven track record in leading electrical design projects from concept to production.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with firmware development, embedded systems, and wireless communication protocols.

Preferred qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of regulatory standards applicable to medical devices, such as IEC 60601 and ISO 14708.

  • Familiarity with Altium Designer.

  • Experience using quality management systems.

  • Expertise in one or more of the following: wireless power transfer, displays, camera interfaces (e.g. MIPI CSI2), low power design, high speed design.
