Science is developing technologies for a range of serious unmet medical needs. We are unafraid to take difficult technical risks, secure in the knowledge that with a clear understanding of what we are doing and with support from powerful modern tools, more progress is possible than might be immediately obvious. Regardless of role or team, the two most important factors we look for in a candidate are evidence of exceptional ability and the addition of positive energy to the group. As a small, early stage team in a largely unstructured environment, the ability to independently orient yourself to the problems that need to be solved and then follow through is essential.

We are seeking outstanding electrical engineers with a passion for improving people’s lives by delivering advanced medical devices. You will be responsible for designing, testing and maintaining electronics for cutting edge medical devices. You will work with experts from biology, microfabrication, optics, software in developing novel devices - clear communication and an eagerness and aptitude to understand implications of electronics design choices on those domains and vice versa is essential.

Role responsibilities:

  • Architect, design and characterize electrical systems, generally at the PCB level, for advanced medical device applications
  • Electronic device bring-up and characterization
  • Test and qualification of electronic hardware especially PCB-As
  • Feasibility investigation and prototype of new concepts
  • Clear documentation and communication of design and test work
  • Interface and communication with cross-disciplinary teams including microfabrication, software, IC design, biology

Required qualifications:

  • Experience in electronic system design using microcontrollers, microprocessors and FPGAs
  • Skilled in PCB design using industry-standard tools such as Altium, OrCAD, etc.
  • Strong understanding of power management in battery-powered systems
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, SDIO, etc)
  • Experience in power and size constrained system design
  • Skilled in low noise analog sensor interface design
  • Adept in modeling signal integrity, parasitic loading and crosstalk for sensing applications
  • Experience with wireless system design and RF-aware PCB design
  • Adept using tools for electronic system characterization including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers etc.
  • Strong circuit analysis and simulation skills
  • Experience of a least one full product life cycle from development to market
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field + 4 years experience or MS + 2 years experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with camera and optical systems
  • Experience with control of test equipment via Python
  • Understanding of firmware development and in particular an ability to factor firmware development into part selection
  • Experience in bringing up boards with high speed interfaces (PCIe, MIPI PHYs, DDR)
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field
