Science
Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.
As part of the BCI team at Science, you will work with a world-class team of scientists and engineers to develop closed-loop brain computer interfaces that push the frontier of neurotechnology. Your deepest technical background is in software engineering, with strong fundamentals in systems design, algorithms, and data structures. You don’t necessarily have a neuroscience background, but you are exceptionally resourceful, adaptable, and creative, and you learn fast. In this line of work, we seek to answer fundamental questions around neural coding, representation, learning, and memory. We will follow the science where it takes us.
Role responsibilities:
- Design novel behavioral tasks that leverage high-dimensional, bidirectional neural interfaces
- Write application software that handles high-throughput data under strict latency requirements
- Build and maintain infrastructure for storing, analyzing, and visualizing large amounts of multi-modal neural and behavioral data
- Stay current with advances in signal processing and machine learning, prototyping emerging techniques for neural decoding
- Collaborate with neuroscientists and device engineers to build useful feature stacks that enable new science
Key qualifications:
- Strong evidence of technical excellence, such as widely used open-source contributions, a track record of high impact (broadly defined) results, or experience building and maintaining production systems
- Expert-level programming ability, with fluency across multiple languages
- Demonstrated history of rapidly shipping solutions when confronted with complex, ill-defined technical problems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with C++, particularly in high performance, critical real time applications
- Experience with modern machine learning methods, including transformers
- Experience extracting information from biological signals, market feeds, audio recordings, video streams, or other real-world noisy data
