We're seeking an IT Infrastructure Lead to join our growing neurotechnology company. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on infrastructure work—you'll spend roughly 50% of your time mentoring and guiding a small team of IT professionals, and 50% architecting and building critical infrastructure yourself.

You'll own the technical foundation that powers our breakthrough research, development, and production operations, ensuring our infrastructure meets the demanding requirements of the healthcare industry while enabling rapid innovation.

Role responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Lead and mentor a small team of IT/infrastructure engineers, providing technical guidance and career development
    • Partner with senior leadership to define and execute the infrastructure roadmap aligned with company goals
    • Drive infrastructure modernization initiatives while maintaining operational excellence
    • Foster a culture of automation, reliability, and continuous improvement
  • Technical Implementation
    • Design and implement secure, scalable infrastructure across cloud (AWS/GCP) and on-premises environments
    • Build infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and configuration management with Ansible
    • Architect networking, compute, and storage solutions for enterprise systems supporting R&D through production
    • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling to reduce manual operations
    • Manage physical server infrastructure and local compute clusters
  • Security & Compliance
    • Translate healthcare regulatory requirements into robust technical implementations
    • Implement and maintain security best practices across all infrastructure layers
    • Ensure data protection, access controls, and audit compliance

Key qualifications:

  • 7+ years in infrastructure/DevOps engineering with progressive leadership experience
  • 2+ years directly managing technical teams
  • Expert-level Linux administration (Ubuntu preferred) in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and configuration management (Ansible)
    • Container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
    • Networking fundamentals (routing, TCP/IP, DNS, VPN)
    • Security practices (SSL/TLS, SSH, encryption, LDAP)
  • Strong coding/scripting abilities (Python, Bash, or Go)
  • Experience with physical infrastructure and on-prem/hybrid environments

Preferred qualifications:

  • ProxMox virtualization platform experience
  • Distributed storage systems (CEPH)
  • Healthcare or regulated industry background
  • Monitoring stack experience (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki)
  • Open-source contributions
  • Computerized system test and validati

Salary/Pay Range:

Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $145,000 - $200,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
