Science
Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.
We are looking for a Packaging Engineer to help develop and test microelectronics packaging schemes for our implantable neural interfaces and validate device lifetime in accelerated physiological conditions. Your main focus will be on developing and testing integration processes and encapsulation materials to protect electronic systems exposed to biofluids. This is a hands-on position where you will need to develop new ideas, test processes, and demonstrate success. Our goal is to move quickly, but ultimately once we have determined the right solution we will aim to scale our work and help as many people as possible.
Role responsibilities:
- Develop integration and packaging schemes for implantable devices with biocompatible encapsulation
- Build and operate accelerated lifetime testing systems with controlled fluid chemistry and automated device health monitoring for high-throughput testing
- Characterize device lifetime through electrochemical and materials analysis, perform root cause failure analysis using techniques including SEM and µCT
- Integrate your technology into the device fabrication and integration flow
Key qualifications:
- Experience developing microelectronics integration and packaging schemes
- Experience in device failure analysis using imaging and analytical techniques
- Experience in mechanical design and CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
- Strong documentation and technical communication skills
- BS in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience designing and building complex closed-loop, automated test systems (fluidics, control systems, data acquisition)
