We are looking for a hands-on Senior Mechanical Engineer to support development of our devices and accessory tools. Work includes designing and fabricating devices, robotic systems, tools and fixtures for biology, optics and microfabrication teams. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter who thinks outside the box, is comfortable with open-ended problems, and is able to pivot quickly. Work at Science is highly collaborative, cross functional, and encompasses the range from micro (we work in microns) to macro (some machines weigh hundreds of pounds).
Role & Responsibilities:
- Design and build micro component based implantable systems
- Design and build compact optomechanical systems
- Design and build custom surgical or medical equipment
- Develop V&V Protocols and Fixtures
Key qualifications:
- 3 years minimum professional experience in a mechanical design role
- Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical principles
- Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
- Demonstrated fabrication skills - show us what you have built
- Experience with developing optomechanical systems, including precision mechanical design and optical manufacturing
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing methods and design for manufacturing (DFM)
- Strong communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
The ideal candidate will also have some subset of the following skills:
- Class III medical device development experience
- CNC and Injection Molding experience (Directs hands-on and/or 3rd party management)
- Microfabrication exposure
- Fluidics and or microfluidics circuit design and fabrication
- Machine / Equipment design
- Microcontrollers & basic board layout
- Simulation and FEA (stress/strain, thermal, and or flow)
- Experience working with surgical or biological requirements
- Polymer processing techniques
Salary/Pay Range:
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000 - $195,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
