Neuroscientist
Science
Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.
Science is developing ambient-light sensitive optogenetic proteins to restore vision without the need for assistive devices. We are looking for experimental neuroscientists passionate about optogenetics and vision to accelerate the translational work for our optogenetic vision restoration project. Candidates can look forward to becoming a key contributor in a talented, driven, and interdisciplinary team pushing the envelope of what is possible with optogenetics in the clinic. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience performing electrophysiology in the visual system, building and improving experimental systems, performing animal behavior experiments and working with neural data. This is a hands-on wet lab role, with the expectation that you will spend most of your time directly performing experiments and analyzing data.
Role responsibilities:
- Perform in vivo electrophysiology with both commercial and custom brain probes
- Help develop experimental approaches to test vision restoration therapies
- Record from retinas to assess efficacy of optogenetic proteins
- Design and help run animal behavior experiments to assess visual function
- Analyze experiments and present results, and collaborate with the team to push the project forward
Key qualifications:
- A track record of excellence and creativity in your field as demonstrated by publications, patents, success with commercialization or translation, or other notable achievements
- Expert level proficiency working with conventional in vivo electrophysiology probes (e.g. neuropixels)
- Expert level proficiency working with scientific computing packages to control online experimental control and analyze data
- Expert level understanding of the visual system
- Proficiency with animal behavior including building and programing experimental setups
- Thrives when working collaboratively and tackling difficult technical challenges, loves doing experiments, passionate about doing rigorous science.
