Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We work to restore quality of life to those with debilitating conditions for which there are no treatment options, creating devices aimed at restoring vision, cognition, and mobility to patients who have lost it. To support progress across our industry, we provide state-of-the-art components and vertically integrated infrastructure for others to build on via Science Foundry.

The Procurement Specialist owns sourcing, supplier negotiation, and purchase order execution for assigned commodity categories across our hardware programs. This person works directly with Manufacturing Operations, R&D, and Quality to secure components, services, and capital equipment on time, on cost, and to spec. The ideal candidate is detail-obsessed, comfortable pushing back on suppliers and internal stakeholders, and able to operate in a fast-moving environment where requirements change weekly. They treat lead time and total landed cost as first-class problems, not afterthoughts, and they document their work cleanly enough that the next person can pick it up without a handoff meeting.

Role responsibilities:

  • Execute end-to-end procurement for assigned categories: RFQ, supplier selection, negotiation, PO issuance, expediting, and receipt reconciliation.
  • Build and maintain supplier scorecards covering on-time delivery, quality, cost variance, and responsiveness; drive corrective actions when performance slips.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and R&D to qualify second sources, reduce single-point-of-failure risk, and lock in lead time commitments before they bite production.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, MOQs, and NRE recovery; document savings against baseline and forecast.
  • Maintain item master data, BOM cost rollups, and supplier records in the ERP; flag and resolve data integrity issues at the source.
  • Coordinate with Quality on incoming inspection failures, SCARs, and supplier audits; close issues with documented root cause.
  • Manage cross-border logistics for inbound shipments to our France site, including customs documentation, Incoterms selection, and freight cost control.
  • Support new product introductions by joining design reviews early enough to influence sourcing decisions before drawings are released.

Key qualifications:

  • 3+ years of direct procurement experience in a hardware, electromechanical, or regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated negotiation track record with documented cost savings; able to walk through specific deals and what drove the outcome.
  • Working proficiency with an ERP system (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) and strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, engineering, business, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience procuring components for medical devices, optics, electronics assemblies, or other regulated hardware.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 or equivalent QMS requirements around supplier qualification and change control.
  • Exposure to low-volume, high-mix production where forecasts are unreliable and supplier flexibility matters more than unit price.
  • CIPS, APICS CPIM/CSCP, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with contract manufacturers and PCBA suppliers in Europe and Asia.
