The Software Development Engineer will design, deliver and enhance Sodal’s software products. The chosen candidate will reference our Minimum Viable Product and incorporate our emerging customer use cases to launch the initial production system in 2024. This position will be a core part of a small, fast-moving team and responsible for cross-functional duties. We are a fully remote workforce.

Responsibilities

• Design and Development: Design and develop Sodal software applications, systems, and services that meet all specifications and requirements. Analyze and recommend software architecture decisions.
• Problem Solving: Solve complex software engineering problems. Analyze and troubleshoot issues with existing systems and develop solutions to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Project Management: Work closely with stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of all produced software. Write tests, conduct code reviews, and integrate best practices in testing to maintain high standards of software quality and reliability.
• Performance Optimization: Optimize the performance of designed solutions. This includes profiling, benchmarking, and making necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation.
• Security: Implement and advocate for best practices in security to safeguard the software against vulnerabilities. This includes conducting security reviews and integrating security measures into the development lifecycle.
• Research and Development: Keep current with the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies. Research and evaluate new technologies that can improve existing systems or influence the development of future projects.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers, developers, product managers, UI/UX designers, and stakeholders to align the development process with business goals and user needs.
• Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation for system architecture, development processes, and API integrations.

• Experience working within small open source software development teams

• 5 or more years of experience designing and delivering software

Desired Skillsets

• Proficiency in full stack web application development, including JavaScript / Typescript
• Proficiency in DevOps practices associated with OSS software managed through Github
• Experience in all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDL)
• Experience with containerization, infrastructure-as-code, and SaaS orchestration solutions
• Familiarity with identity and access management (IAM), and reputation concepts and solutions
• Familiarity coding SaaS products employing graph databases
• Exposure to large scale access control platforms such as Google Zanzibar, Auth0, and OpenFGA
• Excellent writing and communication skills in the presentation of designs and recommendations

Compensation & Benefits

• The target annual salary for this position can range from USD$90,000 to USD$125,000, plus generous equity in an early stage startup.
• Full time offers also include medical, dental, and vision coverage as well as equipment, home office, and SaaS services stipends.
