Spexi: Product Manager – Demand Side APIs and GIS)

About Spexi
At Spexi, we’re revolutionizing access to ultra-high-resolution geospatial imagery with cutting-edge drone technology. Our mission is to empower organizations with actionable spatial insights—enabling smarter decisions about infrastructure, resources, and risk—by delivering high-quality aerial imagery and spatial data at scale.

We’re building a two-sided marketplace called the Spexi Network, enabling pilots to fly missions and organizations to seamlessly request, manage, and retrieve imagery and spatial data. On the demand side, we’re focused on providing robust tools and integrations for customers to search, order, and consume geospatial data through APIs, dashboards, and GIS-ready formats.

We’re looking for a full time results-driven Demand-Side Product Manager to take ownership of our enterprise-facing tools—specifically, API integrations and web-based GIS experiences. You’ll define the product strategy for how organizations request, access, and visualize aerial data—from orthomosaics and static image captures to derivative products like point clouds or inspection reports. Your work will include defining and improving how these datasets are delivered through APIs, web viewers, and spatial data integrations.

Location:

This position offers remote work from the comfort of your home, with occasional in-office requirements at our office located on the 800 block of Powell Street, Vancouver, BC. Candidates in the greater Vancouver area will be given first consideration, followed by those in other parts of British Columbia, and then across Canada. Some travel may be required as the role evolves.

Compensation:

Salary: Competitive, within the CAD $115,000 – $150,000 range.

Responsibilities:

Customer-Focused Discovery

  • Drive discovery efforts to understand customer needs, workflows, and technical environments.

  • Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering to gather requirements and identify high-impact problems to solve.

Agile Leadership

  • Lead the product lifecycle for demand-side experiences, including ordering tools, search/discovery flows, and API access to imagery and metadata.

  • Prioritize features based on user impact, technical feasibility, and business value.

  • Develop clear product requirements and collaborate with designers and engineers throughout the development process.

  • Participate in and facilitate scrum agile ceremonies, ensuring Jira boards remain organized and up-to-date.

  • Ensure backlog reflects both short-term delivery goals and long-term product strategy.

API & GIS Expertise

  • Own the vision for our API offering: including authentication, data access, endpoints, and documentation.

  • Understand how enterprise users integrate with spatial data and build product experiences that align with GIS standards (e.g., GeoJSON, WMTS, WMS, shapefiles).

  • Support the development of a self-serve developer portal and sandbox environment for external users.

Data-Informed Decision-Making

  • Define success metrics and regularly analyze usage data to inform roadmap and iteration.

  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to ensure metrics are accurate and actionable.

Go-to-Market Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales teams on feature positioning, documentation, and training materials.

  • Support launch planning and customer onboarding to ensure smooth rollouts of new capabilities.

What You Bring:

  • 4+ years of product management experience, ideally with geospatial or imagery-based platforms, data products, or developer tooling.

  • Hands-on experience working with or building products around aerial imagery, orthomosaics, point clouds, or tiled map layers.

  • Experience delivering APIs or integrations used to access, render, or process geospatial data.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Strong understanding of APIs (RESTful, authentication methods, rate limits, developer documentation).

  • Familiarity with GIS concepts and file types (GeoTIFF, shapefile, KML, etc.) or mapping tools (QGIS, ArcGIS).

  • Comfort with using Postman, Figma, Jira, Notion, or equivalent tools.

Soft Skills & Mindset

  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities.

  • Empathy for users, especially technical users with specific data workflows.

  • Ability to simplify complex technical problems and align diverse stakeholders around solutions.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience building developer portals or supporting external API integrations.
